Log Works Ltd is based just out of Carterton in the beautiful Wairarapa. Davy Garland started the business over ten years ago after studying Forestry at University. Since then, he's spent his time in the forest, on the sawmill, doing earthworks, and selling firewood. His partner, Sally Newcombe, works right alongside him, along with our great team of locals.
As your local wholesale timber suppliers, we handle the whole job ourselves—from the standing tree right through to the finished product. It feels good doing it this way. Someone can buy decking timber or firewood and know exactly where the trees were standing.
Down at the yard, we saw the logs into different grades. We've got Landscape grade for your planter boxes and edging, Framing grade for construction and fences, and Dry Clears for joinery and furniture. The offcuts go straight into the firewood pile, and even the sawdust gets used. Nothing goes to waste. We mill solid framing timber for the bones of your build, and lovely interior wall lining to finish it off inside.
As well as logging for our own sawmill and firewood supplies, Log Works also harvests, trucks, and exports logs out of Wellington Port. We mostly mill macrocarpa and radiata pine, but we're always keen on other species like Douglas fir, eucalyptus, and redwood. Our setup is mechanised these days, so our small team can get a lot done safely. We use a 50-tonne excavator with a felling head to safely fell the trees, and our firewood is cut and split with precision with our state-of-the-art processor.
